Notes From Captain's Meeting

Please Read.........
The tiebreak format has changed to the Coman Tiebreak. It will still be a 7 pt tiebreak for set tiebreaks and 10 pts for match tiebreaks but here is the new format:

The Coman Tiebreak Procedure is the same as the present tiebreak (set or match), except that ends are changed after the first point, then after every four points (i.e., after the 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th points, etc.), and at the conclusion of the tiebreak. The scoring in the Coman Tiebreak Procedure is the same as a traditional set or match tiebreak, and the procedure for playing the Coman Tiebreak is the same as a set or match tiebreak. For example, if the Coman Tiebreak Procedure is used when the set score is 6-6, the player whose turn it is to serve shall serve the first point from the deuce court; after the first point, the players shall change ends and the following two points shall be served by the opponent(s) (in doubles, the player of the opposing team due to serve next), starting with the ad court; after this, each player/team shall serve alternately for two consecutive points (starting with the ad court), changing ends after every four points, until the end of the tiebreak game.
If the tiebreak was used as a set tiebreak you then change ends to start the next set. Apparently the reasons for using it are as follows:
1. Fairness – By changing ends more frequently, the effects of the elements (sun, wind, etc.) are distributed more evenly between the two opponents as opposed to playing six consecutive points before changing ends.
2.
In doubles, the server will always serve from the same end of the court, rather than having to serve from both ends.

It seems simpler to me so should result in less confusion but you never know...

In the rules about cancelling matches inclement weather has now been replaced by rain. This means that it's up to Melissa or someone simillar to decide if matches should be canceled die to extreme heat, wind etc. Should she do this she will send an email to the captains of whatever flights are playing that day and she will Tweet. You can follow her on Twitter at MMFeuerstein.

If you cancel a match due to courts being unplayable and the courts then become playable within an hour of the scheduled match time you must play your match or Melissa can call a forfeit on both teams. Should 1 team turn up and the other not then only 1 team will forfeit. This is due to the difficulty of rescheduling especially at CTP. She referenced last years weekend doubles while talking about this. So basically if you have a 2 pm match and cancel that morning but the afternoon clears up you must play.

If you want a simple explanation of how the NTRP works Melissa has an email that she can send you.

If we are not going to stagger courts we need to let Melissa know by Feb 12th.

Melissa will send out the captains contact lists this week.
