Parking at the Tennis Park: The Town of Cary Parks and Recreation department has been working the Cary Police Department to address the issue of street parking outside the Tennis Park and Green Hope Elementary School on Louis Stephens Road. Parking on the street is illegal and dangerous to both motorists and pedestrians and may result in the receipt of a parking ticket. Parking is available in the Tennis Park’s main lot, and the Green Hope Elementary School Park’s lot. During school hours, please park in the left hand side of the lot, as you drive up. On weekends or evenings you may use the entire lot. Please use these lots rather than parking on the street.
I had a 2010 Event Tennis Park Event schedule available at the Captain's meeting, but am attaching a copy to this e-mail. The events listed are not the only commitments the Tennis Park has made, but does give you and your players some idea of our tournament schedule. Match courts are booked at the beginning of the season and additional courts may be requested two days in advance, should you wish to try and play your match unstaggered. Please keep in mind that courts which appear open at match time may very well be committed to another event, class, teaching staff, or individual reservation.
The ACCs: The ACCs are coming back to the Tennis Park this spring and we are very excited to have been chosen the host facility for the second year. Play will begin on Thursday morning, April 22nd and the Finals will be Sunday, April 25th. Last year, for the first time we used volunteers as score turners on each court. If you (or any of your team) is interested in volunteering, on court of off, we will be sending out more information in mid-March. Western Wake Tennis will also be holding an adult tournament at the Tennis Park during the ACCs - look for more information on this event - westernwaketennis.com.
Please do not assume any warm up time will be available, especially for weekend or evening matches. Many times this spring courts for matches will not be available until the match is scheduled to start. Should the courts be open, we do not mind your team coming out before match time. I have been extremely impressed with the respect I have seen tennis players show to high school matches in progress at Annie Jones and Godbold, please show this same respect to adult or junior players who are on "your" courts and wait for your reservation time. Please share this with any opponent who is not playing on a Town of Cary team.
Asthma Fundraiser: Jake Lester, one of our teaching pros, is holding an Asthma Fund-raiser in March - trying to raise money for asthma and break a Guinness Book of World Records record, by teaching 36 hours straight. See the attached flier - please forward this to anyone you think will be interested!
